A few of the things that have interested me for the entirety of my life is ink, paper, pens, and planners. My father posssessed excellent penmanship and I was so greatly impressed by his hand that, as a child, I tried to imitate his writing style. My father's favorite writing intruments were a finely sharpened Black Warrior pencil and a Cross ball point pen and I can remember him always carrying a small notebook in his shirt pocket in which he would record all kinds of notes to himself, so I am sure I inherited my love of ink and paper from him.
For the last several years, I have used a Lamy Safari fountain pen as my writing instrument of choice. The use of fountain pens is infectious because my wife, brother, nephew, and neice are now all users of fountain pens. I participate in the Goulet Pen Company's monthly Ink Drop to sample many different manufacturers and colors of inks and post these ink samples to my blog each Tuesday. De Atramentis and J. Herbin are my most favorite ink makers and some of my most favorite inks include the following:
- De Atrementis Steel Blue
- J. Herbin Liere Sauvage
- J. Herbin Violette Pensee
- J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir
- De Atramentis Sandalwood
- J. Herbin Rouge Hematite (1670)
- De Atramentis Plum
- Diamine Eau de Nil
- Diamine Ochre
- De Atrementis Aubergine
Being a fountain pen user, I really appreciate a nice, heavy weight, smooth paper on which to write. I am an admirer of Clairfontaine paper which can be found in the Clairfontaine Triomphe notepad, and journals produced by Rodia and Quo Vadis. I used to love Moleskine journals but they are not fountain pen-friendly.
Within the past year, I have also discovered Filofax planners. This UK-based company produces some of the best planners in the world, in my opinion. I will soon upload a vlog tour of my A5 Cuban and my personal Holborn.
