Today, I received two books from Amazon.
I have recently read a book by Lauren F. Winner entitled, Girl Meets God: On the Path to a Spiritual Life, which I reviewed here. I was so touched by Ms. Winner's writing that I knew I had to read more of her work. Today, I received Mudhouse Sabbath: An Invitation to a Life of Spiritual Discipline and I had to immediately begin reading it. It lists for $14.99, but Amazon currently has it discounted to $4.69.
From the backflap: "After her conversion from Orthodox Judaism to Christianity, Lauren Winner found that her life was indelibly marked by the rich traditions and spiritual practices of Judaism. She set out to discover how she could incorporate some of these practices into her new faith.
Winner presents eleven Jewish spiritual practices that can transform the way Christians view the world, and God. Whether discussing attentive eating, marking the days while grieving, the community that supports a marriage, candle-lighting, or the differences between the Jewish Sabbath and a Sunday spent at the Mudhouse, her favorite coffee shop, Winner writes with appealing honesty and rare insight."
Spurred by a recent video that I watched on YouTube of Joyce Meyer discussing bible study methods with Rick Renner and R.T. Kendall, I also purchased a copy of Kendall's Holy Fire. This book was written by Kendall as a response to John F. MacArthur's scathing book entitled, Strange Fire. In his book, MacArthur, a Calvinist and a Cessationist, labels pentecostal and charismatic Christians as a "false church."
From the backflap: "Debate about the Holy Spirit has been around for a long time. In Holy Fire, best-selling author and respected theologian R.T. Kendall sets the record straight about the Holy Spirit's role in our lives and in the life of the church.
If you want to increase your knowledge of this most misunderstood member of the Trinity, or if you long to experience His presence in your life in a deeper way than ever before, this book is for you.
Are you charismatic? He is bigger than your signs-and-wonders events. Are you Reformed? He will not be limited by your theology. As Jesus said of the Holy Spirit, 'He blows where He will.'"
Soli Deo Gloria,
Joseph
